Meeting International Human Rights Standards

 

The objective of the activity 1-   To get familiar with the international and local standards in the field of the rights of the people deprived of their liberty.

2-   To understand the needs of the vulnerable groups of prisoners (Women and Children)

3-   Identify the means for implementing the networking activities in the field of the rights of the people deprived of their liberty.

4-   Identify the means for prevent torture  and Cruel or degrading treatment in the field of the rights of the women and people  deprived of their liberty

5-   Establish a network from the social society organizations interested Enlighten the participants on juvenile justice policies in Yemen, and their role in applying it.

Methodology  and Topics The methodology utilized in the workshop was based on multiple ways that is in compliance with the adult education including interactive training, presenting of working papers, power point presentations, focus groups and team work to discuss issues related to the standards of prisoners treatment, how to establish a network of civil society organizations and the ways to manage it and establish its communication channels.

 

The outcomes of the activity The importance of this workshop stems from its role to enhance the capacities of the civil society organizations to introduce and implement services that are in compliance with the approach based on the human rights in the field of prisoners care and treatment. The participants were introduced to the local and international standards related to prisoners care and treatment. As well, the participants and through their practical experiences and field activities identified the gaps between theory and realities and developed an annual plan for the network that was established as a result of the workshop
How can the activity outcomes lead to achieve the project outcome? The objectives and outputs of the workshop can be achieved by continuing to work on improving the conditions of prisons and support the process of reform, and continue to build the capacity of institutions and individuals

Suggestions:

 

 Continue to work with the established network and to prepare the network members to continue with the process of reform and rehabilitation in prisons and the adoption of fair and expandable social, vocational and health related services and alternatives that can be provided to persons deprived of their liberty and introduce them into the justice system.
